Mrs D

Don't forget to do some research on your ancillary tasks as well as planning. Your photos are interesting and could create a strong brand if developed effectively. Where is your audience feedback on your draft trailer?

Mrs D

Well done Jac. I like the shortened clips of the characters talking and the pace is starting to come together. I liked the narration that you had in an earlier draft - you could film some footage to go with this and get some text up soon to anchor your narrative.

Narration Script

This is a script for Jack Collier who will narrate the back story of the killer for my trailer which has undergone another name change from "Trepidy" to "Trepidation" which sounds more sinister and appealing to the target market.

Mrs D

Well done Jac. You have got some excellent detail here and you are working well towards your deadlines. Don't forget about a range of ICT.

Audience Feedback

Today I received some audience feedback on the footage on my trailer so far. The response was that  my trailer was mostly in profficent from all who watched it but gave different marks, mostly around 27/28 marks.
The comments about my trailer was also diverse as different people picked up on different elements such as editing, narration, lighting, MES, captions etc.

The main points I picked up on was that it is too long being 3 minutes and 19 seconds, which may seem like a short film and may give the audience too much of a story line i.e they know the basic plot and structure of the story. This was suggested by adding more captions to set the scene that aren't too lengthy as there not enough. Another key point was that the music is too loud or not enough music/sound is added as it can be hard to hear the characters at times but at the same time does not build tension or pace aided by music so the music can be turned down or faded so still be able to hear but not as loudly.

Some of the feedback was positive as the audience seemed to like the different shots because they are varied such as in the woods and inside the house which also complimented the different lighting such as light and dark. the overall story line of the film is easily explained as well which was positive as the audience can understand the plot/synopsis and aren't confused as much as what the trailer is advertising or promoting. The final couple of shots were praised by the audience as the trailer does build and can be identified as a scary and intimidating scene to be in, as the camera is in the point of view of the actor so the audience can connect and sympathize with the characters more.

Here are some examples of feedback more clearly and more detailed:

Draft Name

Character Profiles

Jac-Gwyn Whitehouse as Greg Stewart
Greg is 17 and is the second oldest out of his friends in the group. He can be described as a typical teenage boy; wears jeans and hoodies, loves his mates and going out in the evenings. He has a very logical mind and reluctant to believe in any supernatural stories but when Josh goes missing, his mind is very quick to change and suddenly turns his character from very social to very quiet and timid: he becomes trepid.

Andrew Owens as Chris Rorn
Chris is the oldest of the 3 being 18, keeps calm throughout the entire film but hides his emotions beneath his strong exterior  He is very level headed and tries to think logically when Josh disappears. He and Greg visit the woods in the dead at night when they encounter the boy from the woods.

Jack Collier as Josh Whitman
Josh is also 17 and the youngest of the group. He love's his horror movies and is interested dark and gothic scenery such as voodoo, dark magic and the paranormal. Josh tells Greg and Chris the story about the boy who liked to camp in the woods, who got severely beaten up one day and then went on a killing spree, claiming 3 victims every year. Greg decides he and Chris need to find Josh after finding his shoe with a threatening message inside. In the end of the film, it turns out that Josh kidnapped himself and disguised himself as the boy from the horror story. his motive was that no one else was interested in dark and gothic interests so he felt like an outcast with his friends, family and the rest of the town, so he decided to make everyone aware of his interests the best way possible: killing one of his best friends Chris and scaring Greg, his friend who made fun of him for believing in the supernatural and un-ordinary.

Planning of Action

I have created a poster for Trepidy and started a new storyboard which is more detailed but has less slides as this is a trailer which would only be a minute long. Re-Filming would start next week as the shots need to be filmed at night.

Trepidy

I have come back and the storyline and planning for the the new idea I have created a written synopsis for my new idea: Trepidy.

The trailer would start with me and two of my friends, excited that we have a place at university and happy that we're done with exams. After watching a few horror movies one of my friends (Jack Collier) decides to tell me and Andrew ghost stories just as a bit of fun. As Jack tells the story, flashbacks will occur in the trailer of the man in the woods.

There once was a teenage boy (about 19) who liked to explore and camp in the woods, but suffered from a severe psychological illness which grew worse overtime. He was then taken into care for treatment but this didn't help and the boy ran away and lived in the woods, his clothes ripped and his flesh rotting and decaying. One night a gang of youths decided to burn down the forest and as they were messing they found the boy and decided to beat him for his illness, but this only angered the boy and he turned savage, violently killing the youths in the fire. Now damaged, he found some bandages to disguise his wounds and burns. Now every year, the day he was killed 3 teenagers go missing. In Crowthorne. In the woods

As that day approaches, Jack disappears, and so it is up to me and Andrew to find him before it is too late, which will be the main synopsis of the film. The next couple of shotswill be during the day, and will be around the woods where I notice the crosss on the ground, and this added mystery willcreate tesnsion and suspension.

I will use a variety of camera shots such as over the shoulder, two shots, point of view shot, close ups and wide shots, as well as low angles.

"The Axe-Man" is the pending nickname or alias for the killer but this name may change over time.

This Trailer would mainly be set in two locations: My house and the woods near where I live, with majority of the trailer filmed at night, and a range of props such as matches

This trailer has a better storyline as I have planned it thoroughly more than my first idea, but some footage will be reused but I feel I have enough time as my trailer won't be similar to a short story

Skills Development

I approached planning to my production differently to my AS version of the Ring Trailer as I was not present for the production of my group. I was present for planning for the production and I feel I have developed my skills such as organizing as I have studied many trailers and analysed types of certain shots such as panoramas and subjective shots. I also think I have improved skills on creativity as this time I have managed to create a new idea rather than remaking a film.

Distribution Idea 1

Mrs D

Well done for completing a first draft of your storyboard. Your content and ideas are great. They fit well with the horror genre and I like your use of font. To improve, use animatronics so I can see your plans for editing and make sure you have enough shots and variety of shots. Make sure you follow the conventions of the structure of a trailer and all the content is not linear. Keep up the good work.

Presentation Feedback

On Tuesday 1st October 2013 I presented my pitch idea via Powerpoint explaining my 3 ideas, a little background about me and my final idea. The feedback I recieeved was positive as I was told I had presented well and had very creative ideas. I aslo recieved very good reactions when I said I was aiming to create a new iconic villain. The only critisicm I recievd was that I neede to think about a storyline/synopsis for my tariler as I was lacking one and that I might want to think about renaming my chosen idea "The Creature of Crowthorne".

Distribution

This is the mindmap for my distribution which I have decided to choose the name White Silence Films as part of it incoprorates my last name (Whitehouse) and silence to keep with the horror genre.

Well done on your pitch. Add some feedback to your blog soon. Your use of semiotics in the deign of your text and icons work really well for the horror genre. Add some analysis to your test shots - possibility to do another mood board type arrangement with some analysis linked to features of your storyline. Well done for using some moving image too. Tie it into your narrative. I'm looking forward to seeing how you will construct your new villain.

Test Photos

These are the test photos that I took on Friday 27th September 2013. These are photos of the woods that are around me which have lots of different sceneries including hills, bushes, ditches etc which I would have lots of chase scenes and panoramic shots. I also have photos of the sixth form where there is a balcony which I hope to also use.
